Hatha Yoga in Garvestone
At: Garvestone & Thuxton Village Hall
When: Thursdays 10:00am–11:00am
Hatha Yoga at Garvestone & Thuxton Village Hall is the middle-of-Norfolk morning class, the one that serves the wide belt of villages between Mattishall, Wymondham and Dereham where Norwich is a thirty-minute drive and the city studios are never quite worth the trek. The hall sits just off the Dereham Road, a simple, well-kept Norfolk building with one of the best sprung floors in the venue list. Thursday mornings run quietly in this stretch of Norfolk: school traffic has cleared by 10am, the lane outside the hall is empty, and the inside of the class has an unusually settled atmosphere. Students come from Garvestone itself, from Reymerston, Thuxton, Mattishall, Hingham, Whinburgh, and the edges of Dereham. The community here has the warmest local character of any of my classes: the students know each other from the village shops, the local schools, the churches, the gardens, and the Thursday morning becomes a gentle social anchor as well as a good class. Free parking directly beside the hall, heating on before Ania arrives, and Ania teaches the full Hatha sequence adjusted to the range of bodies in the room.

A local tip
Mattishall has a good independent café (ten minutes from Garvestone) that’s a lovely stop on the way back to Norwich or Wymondham. For a longer detour, the Thuxton preserved-railway station is a five-minute drive and worth a stroll at any time of year.
What the practice involves
Hatha Yoga at Blossom Yoga is a careful, traditional practice: classical postures held long enough to settle the body and quiet the mind, sequenced with breath work, and taught with individual attention. Classes build strength and flexibility gradually and suit beginners alongside experienced students. The pace is unhurried, the room is warm, and nothing is competitive. This is yoga for everyday bodies, taught in Norwich and surrounding villages since 2014.
Students typically find it helps with
- Builds strength and mobility gradually, without strain
- Improves posture and eases long-standing back and neck tension
- Steadies the nervous system through long-held poses and slow breath
- Supports joint health, balance and bone density in midlife and beyond
- Develops a calmer, more focused attention you can take into daily life
- Creates a regular, sustainable rhythm of self-care
