Cringleford is one of the most pleasant places to teach near Norwich: a leafy, settled village on the south-western edge of the city, bordered by the River Yare. The Pavilion sits on Oakfields Road, set within the recreation ground alongside the tennis courts, and is a recently refurbished, modern hall with good heating and beautiful grounds surrounding it.

For Norwich residents, this is almost always the closest in-person venue. From Eaton, Newmarket Road or Unthank, it’s a five to ten minute drive. From Eaton Park, it’s essentially walking distance. Students come in from all over the south and west of the city: Cringleford itself, Eaton, Keswick, Bawburgh and Unthank Road.

The class is well-attended and consistently fully booked at sixteen students. The community has a roughly equal balance of men and women, spans the 30s through the 70s, and is made up largely of loyal and dedicated students who have been coming for years. Newcomers are welcomed, though booking ahead is essential.

Ania brings blocks and straps for everyone. Students are encouraged to bring their own mat. If you are a complete beginner without a mat, let Ania know when you book and she can bring one for you.

A local tip from Ania

The short riverside walk from the Pavilion down to Cringleford bridge is five minutes each way and almost always beautifully quiet. A lovely way to let the practice settle before driving home.

FAQs

Questions about Cringleford

I work at or study at UEA, is this the easiest class for me?

Almost certainly yes. The Pavilion is a short walk or a five-minute drive from UEA, and several regulars cycle down from campus.

Is parking ever a problem?

No. The class runs at sixteen students and there is always plenty of free on-site parking. It is never an issue.

Do you run any other services here?

Currently just Hatha Yoga. For Soulful Yoga & Social, Meditation, Women’s Circle and therapies you’d come to Barnham Broom or Honingham, both 15–20 minutes further west.

Is this class suitable for beginners?

Yes, though this class has a certain intensity and students tend to be dedicated and experienced. If you have significant physical limitations, Therapeutic Yoga at Barnham Broom is likely a more comfortable starting point. Arrive ten minutes early and Ania will make sure you feel settled.

How does the drive compare to going into Norwich centre?

Quicker, easier, and you don’t pay for parking. Most Norwich residents find it genuinely less stressful than a city-centre trip.
