Yoga in Garvestone

Garvestone & Thuxton Village Hall hosts the Hatha Yoga class for students in the middle belt of Norfolk, Garvestone itself, Reymerston, Thuxton, Mattishall and the villages reaching towards Dereham. The hall is warm, bright and well-kept, with a good wooden floor and plenty of space. Twenty to twenty-five minutes from Norwich, it’s the natural fit for anyone living west of Wymondham.

Garvestone is a small, quiet Norfolk village set between Dereham, Mattishall and Hingham, and its village hall has been hosting the weekly Hatha Yoga class since 2025. For students living in the broad middle of Norfolk, the villages that cluster west of Wymondham and south of Dereham, it is almost always the closest Blossom class.

The hall itself is a classic Norfolk village building, single-storey, warm, with an excellent sprung wooden floor that’s forgiving under bare feet. Lighting is generous and heating kicks in before Ania arrives. The village lane is quiet during class times, which means the only sounds are the ones inside the practice.

Students come in from Garvestone itself, Reymerston, Thuxton, Mattishall, Hingham, Whinburgh, Wymondham and the edges of Dereham. The community here is warm and rooted in this part of Norfolk, with many students coming from the same cluster of villages week after week. Newcomers are welcomed quietly and without fuss, and it tends not to take long to feel at home.

There is free parking directly beside the hall and neither the hall nor the car park ever gets busy for this small class. Since this class started back in June 2025 it has grown steadily, and has a friendly, welcoming and unhurried feel to it. It is the gentlest of all the Hatha Yoga classes, with a good number of retired people in the room, which means the pace is thoughtful and the approach particularly careful. Chairs, cushions and yoga straps are available to support the practice.

A local tip from Ania

If you’re driving over from Dereham or beyond, Thuxton Station (the preserved Mid-Norfolk Railway line) is worth a detour on a weekend, steam-train weekends draw a small, happy crowd. Less directly relevant to class, but a nice addition to a Saturday.

FAQs

Questions about Garvestone

Is the hall warm?

Yes, the heating goes on before Ania arrives. Blankets are not provided, so bring one if your body temperature tends to drop during the rest at the end.

I live in Dereham, is this easier than driving to Norwich?

Much easier. Garvestone is five minutes from Dereham; Norwich is thirty.

Is this the only class you run here?

Yes, Hatha Yoga runs weekly at Garvestone. For the other services (Therapeutic, Meditation, Women’s Circle, massage) you’d come to Barnham Broom or Honingham.

What if I want to try a class but I’m nervous about being new?

Arrive ten minutes early and Ania will meet you, take you through the setup, and make sure you know where everything is. The class itself is small and warmly welcoming.
